Beautiful Art Deco illustration of a row of trees and a vintage automobile. "L' Administration Autonome Des Routes Des L'État"
One of four of Attilio Calzavara's (1901-1952) iconic 1932 illustrations for "Opere Pubbliche 1922-32" published by the Ministero dei Lavori Pubblici diretto da Araldo di Crollalanza in Italy.
This however is from the even rarer French translation of 1935, "Les Travaux Publics exécutés dans les premières années du régime fasciste," which was printed for the 1935 Universal Exhibition of Brussels. He was commissioned for the translation himself and it was the only translation of the work with his original artwork.
Calzavara produced a varied series of illustrative tempera paintings in multiple versions, based on futurist-flavored stylistic elements, intended for chapter headings. He played on highly dramatized perspectives of dry graphic-architectural elements through viewpoints skimming the horizon in each of his illustrations.
